Between 1694 and 1755 the first three Dukes of Devonshire heavily acquired Old Master paintings, prints and drawings both on continent and in Britain. Thanks to their endeavours, Chatsworth now holds one of the richest private collections in the country. Focusing on the drawings collection, this talk will explore the Dukes’ collecting tastes and present some of the most beloved objects by the greatest masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Rembrandt, Van Dyck and many more.
Meeting point and refreshments
This event takes place in the Hartington Room in the Chatsworth Stables and includes a cup of tea or coffee. Doors will be open from 10.40am. Latecomers may not be admitted.
